Restaurant Review
Bonobo's Restaurant in NYC at 18 E. 23rd Street was a great recent find! We were heading for the subway stop when my 12-year-old noticed Bonobo's and begged to go in.
Bonobo's is a great find for those of us who want organic food in a hurry, and don't eat refined cane sugar.
The chef's are friendly, informative and offer samples from the display case at the front of the restaurant. You can't call it a 'cooking' area because everything at Bonobo's is raw! We tried their "signature" Red Pepper-Coconut Soup, and it is absolutely delicious!
Restaurant Review
The Tabard Inn, Washington, D.C.
May 21, 2006
I will never again drive south without going to DC! The Tabard is worth the stop to stay and to eat. Imagine stepping into a feeling--not just a place, but a place with a feeling of home and history and activism. You walk into a room with 1800’s furniture, a fireplace and friendly people sitting and chatting while waiting for their meal or listening to the jazz guitarist. And then sitting down to eat a beautiful meal that is carefully and thoughtfully prepared with mostly organic ingredients,...

Taking up the drums at age 13, Sam Ulano opened his first studio four years later and began teaching and writing about drumming. He followed up high school with four years at the Manhattan School of Music before being drafted into the army, where he trained a 100-piece drum corps.
Now 84 years old and showing no signs of letting up, Sam is a performer, educator and author who has been in the music profession for over 65 years. During that time, he has studied with and taught the best of them, while carving out a niche for himself as a respected drummer on the New York scene. Sam has played at many of the top nightspots in New York, including the Gaslight Club and, currently, the famed Red Blazer. He's played the summer resorts, the concert field, and is known as "Mr. Rhythm" for his more than 500 shows for young audiences throughout the New York school system. He has appeared on television with Steve Allen on The Tonight Show, as well as with Gary Moore, Ernie Kovacs, and Joe Franklin.
Well-known for his methods of drum teaching and his progressive approach to writing about the instrument he loves, Sam has over 2500 instruction books to his credit-300 in the past five years alone! He also has produced records, audio and video tapes, and CDs of his instruction and performance. He continues to write, teach, and perform in his own inimitable style.

Founder of the Hand-in-Hand Program
Susan West trained in music performance at the Melbourne University Conservatorium of Music and the Victorian College of the Arts in Australia and obtained a post-graduate degree in music education from the Kodaly Institute of Hungary. After working as a professional musician with the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra she was invited to the Canberra School of Music in 1984 to help establish the Music Education Program. Recognizing a need for different and more successful forms of music education, she continued her studies, first at Charles Sturt University and later with the Institute for Music and Health, New York. This work led to the establishment of the Music in Schools Program and the Hand-in-Hand outreach program...
